arrangers' bios
Here are the various members of our group who have arranged music for us over the years. Some do this casually and others do it as a full time profession. You can learn more about us as individuals, here.
Samrat Chakrabarti [HS 1997-2001] joined us from the Brandeis University Voicemale, whom he directed. Over his tenure of 5 years in HS and as a contributing alumnus thereafter, he arranged dozens of tunes. Samrat's arrangements have won numerous awards over the years and he is applauded also for both the uniqueness of his arrangements and his ability to teach them on-the-spot. This is the first time his arrangements have been provided to the public - and much of that is due to the generous time and transcription effort from fellow Soundmen James Harrington and Cooper Cerulo. In 2009, Samrat was a founding member of Mutual X, a Hyannis Sound offshoot that was the alternate for season 1 of NBC's The Sing-Off.
James Harrington [HS 2001-2004] spent 4 summers with the Hyannis Sound, having previously been a member of the New Hampshire Gentlemen of UNH. In subsequent years, he was a member or hired gun for pro and semi-pro groups, and a member of several jazz and contemporary groups at Berklee College of Music, as well as a clinician and arranger for collegiate groups throughout the northeast and as far off as Oregon. At Berklee, he honed his arranging and transcription skills (see Samrat Chakrabarti), and is currently a professional music copyist and arranger through his company, 5 Scribes, in Nashville, TN. In 2009, James was a founding member of Mutual X, a Hyannis Sound offshoot that was the alternate for season 1 of NBC's The Sing-Off.
Cooper Cerulo [HS 2004-2007] served as Musical Director in 2007. During his time with the group he arranged over 25 songs for voice, and also had several recorded on their latest studio album, Shirt, Tie, Khaki. He continues to produce custom arrangements for a cappella groups and singers via CCMP, where he also works in transcription (see Samrat Chakrabarti). Cooper spends much time employed as a singer on various cruise ships, traveling the world.
Ed Boyer [HS 2003-2004] is a veteran music director from the Tufts University Beezlebubs. Ed was our Music Director in his second and final season. He is an incredible arranger who has mastered the art of maximizing resources in a small-ensemble setting. His award-winning arrangements for both the Bubs and the Sound demonstrate an ear for both functionality and texture, and expertly extract an amazing amount of sound from the male vocal range.
Nate Altimari [HS 1996, 1998] is a accomplished vocal jazz singer/arranger. He sang with Hyannis Sound and then went on to found Jyde, where he performed on St. Thomas for over 9 months. He is a former singer of the UMASS Doo-Wop Shop and currently runs the award winning professional a cappella group, Firedrill in Boston. His latest arrangement work can be heard on Hyannis Sound's live album, Annual Bootleg Volume 6. In 2009, Nate was a founding member of Mutual X, a Hyannis Sound offshoot that was the alternate for season 1 of NBC's The Sing-Off.
Mark Manley [HS 2002-2003] is a former member and alumnus of the University of Virginia's Academical Village People. While serving as AVP's Music Director, he was able to put together many successful collegiate a cappella vocal arrangements, some of which he brought to Hyannis Sound. Currently residing in Boston, Mark has and continues to provide amazing arrangements as an alumnus of Hyannis Sound.
Eric Fosbury [HS 2000-2004] served as our Musical Director during the summers of 2002 and 2003. He was also Music Director of the Buffalo Chips. A very creative arranger when it comes to adding interesting moving parts and textures to an arrangement, "Fozz" continues to contribute great arrangements to the world of a cappella.
Victor Sandman [HS 2002-2004] sang with the Boston University Dear Abbeys before joining Hyannis Sound. Blessed with an absolutely amazing powerful tenor voice, Vic was also able to contribute some great arrangements in his time in the sound. He currently lives in Boston, and is very active in the a cappella community. He is working as a solo artist and has recorded an album of his own songs which are available at CD Baby. In 2009, Vic was a founding member of Mutual X, a Hyannis Sound offshoot that was the alternate for season 1 of NBC's The Sing-Off.
Tim Bongiovanni [HS 2004-2007] served as our Musical Director in the summers of 2005 and 2006. As an arranger Tim has the extraodinary ability to take a song and make it his own, putting his own very creative flair on it. He has arranger several classic hits for the Hyannis Sound during his time with the group, and continues to contribute as an alumnus of the group. Tim currently works in the Boston area as both a live and studio sound engineer, as well as a sound design professional. His company is called North Gate Productions.
Andy Delong [HS 2005-2008] currently sings with the hit a cappella group Ocean's 4 aboard the Celebrity Solstice cruise ship. He is a very accomplished soloist, and attended the Berklee College of Music in Boston. In 2009, Andy was a founding member of Mutual X, a Hyannis Sound offshoot that was the alternate for season 1 of NBC's The Sing-Off.
Brian O'Shaughnessey [HS 2007-2010 ] served as the Music Director of the Hyannis Sound in 2008 and 2009. He is truly a great up-and-coming arranger and has put together some amazing arrangements in his time with the group. Brian understands the way that voices can most optimally blend in an arrangement, and utilizes his singers in this way to their fullest. His personal arrangement library continues to grow this summer even after his time with the Sound has ended.
Jeff Eames [HS 2007- 2010] is another recent alumnus of the Hyannis Sound, and yet another great arrangement artist for the group. Jeff churns out an astonishing amount of arrangements in the summer, each showing a new creative way of vocal texturing and syllables. Already finished with his 2nd summer in the group, Jeff has already created some very impressive arrangements which are displayed to great effect in the Sound's two most recent studio albums, High Tide and On the Clock.
Warren Bloom [HS 1996-1997] arranged some truly creative vocal works. His arrangement of the Star Spangled Banner has been performed at many functions and baseball games by Hyannis Sound over the last few years. Warren currently resides in Brooklyn, NY.
Townsend Belisle founded the Hyannis Sound in 1994. Originally from the Skidmore College Bandersnatchers, T learned how to arrange while classmates at Skidmore with Jon Ryan and Mark Hilgenberg. He then mastered the trade as the founder of the Vineyard Sound and still took it to another level with us. T continues to produce the HS and a few of his tunes are still performed today by the current group. He continues to produce Hyannis Sound through the agency Haystack Needle.
