What are you up to now?:
I got married on November 24, 1997 at the Brooklyn Botanic Garden (with Townsend, Samrat and Niles in attendance). I've been through a few teaching jobs over the last few years; I'm currently (and happily) teaching general music (PreK-2, and yes they're adorable) at Pioneer Academy (P.S. 307Q) in Queens. I've also been teaching musical theater at the Usdan Center for the Arts on Long Island most summers since '98.
I'm also musical director of the NYC-based vocal band Invisible Men. We record with John Clark, and have Samrat write most of our arrangements, like the Sound does, because they're the best (see "favorite HS recording" below).
Has HS affected the general trajectory of your life? If so, how?:
I'm not sure how much the Sound affected my life's trajectory in the long run, but it definitely kept my skills sharp and my vocal endurance strong. I have also logged many, many miles to and from Hyannis on Peter Pan that I wouldn't otherwise have.
Tell us about your favorite on-stage moment...:
We'd done some great gigs in '96 and '97, but the greatest moment hands down was at the MASC convention at the Tara Hyannis in late '99. Thousands of screaming teenagers, especially when Bonk's face was on the Jumbotrons. Yes, there were Jumbotrons. Utter insanity. Rob Powers was there, apparently, which is wild.
What is your favorite HS transportation moment?:
When Brendon's car -- the Hawk (R.I.P.) -- died on Route 6A just north of Orleans, we all piled into [????]'s station wagon. All ten of us. Hilarity and extreme discomfort ensued; Tim H. regaled us from the read door with the musical story of Old McDonald's Dysfunctional Farm.
What is your favorite HS recording?:
"A Thousand Miles" (from 2003's Cape Standard Time) is not only the greatest a-cappella recording ever, it may be the greatest recording I've ever heard, period. Seriously. That recording changed my view of what was possible with voices in the studio, and I'd been singing a-cappella almost non-stop since '91 leading up to that. Ridiculousness.
